VO Export Explorer
Return to Introduction  Previous page  Next page
Export Explorer gives you the ability to quickly browse the contents of an export file in an explorer-like interface without having to load it into Visual Objects. You can view all the modules within an AEF, see all the entities, read the source code and copy it into the Windows clipboard.

The following pages discuss all the parts of Export Explorer in detail. Some of the highlights are listed below.

A major feature in Export Explorer is the ability to compare export files to determine their differences. This feature proves invaluable in the following situations:

n As you develop your application you take backups of the current stage of development by exporting. VOEE can isolate the differences between these versions.

n A new version of source code is provided to you from a third party and you want to verify the differences between the old and the new.

n You have a multi-programmer team and you want to determine what updates have been made by individuals.

Some of the other features include:

n recently used files are added to the menu
n the explorer listview supports column sorting by clicking on the column heading
n modules with large number of entities (thousands) are supported
n you can launch Export Explorer from the Visual Objects Tools menu
n an option is available that will allow the listview columns to automatically adjust their widths to completely display all items in them.

n
the source code viewing window can be resized and the font used is configurable
n you can choose to use the same font settings as VO's source editor
n an option to show coloured source code syntax
n you can place anchor points when viewing source code, and jump directly to the previous and next anchors
n entity separator lines are displayed when viewing source
n right click on an entity name in the source code allows you to jump to the source for that entity
n you can export from the internal source viewer in three formats: PRG, RTF or HTML
n a Go To option presents a list of entities currently being viewed and allows you to go directly to the selected one. You can also specify a line number to go to within the selected entity.
n The source viewer can be configured to stay on top of any other windows
n you can choose to use an external editor to view the source code

n
you can search the export file for specified text
n you can search within the internal source viewer window
n history of recent searches is kept when finding text throughout export files and within the source code viewer
n searching supports the use of regular expressions

n
comparison can ignore case and/or spaces and tabs
n when comparing files you can optionally hide resource entries displayed in the differences window
n when viewing differences between files you can perform difference analysis on all listed entities at once
n additional filtering options when viewing the results of comparison
